Job Description

Expressions of interest are invited for the position of Interim Chief of Staff of Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll (AHI).

The Interim Chief of Staff must be an accomplished physician with a strong record of clinical service, quality improvement, and leadership in both clinical and administrative activities. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership capabilities and is viewed as an accomplished agent of change. He/she will be an excellent communicator, able to advocate for the Hospital's mission and goals to its partners and to the community and will work collaboratively with the AHI Board of Directors and the Professional Staff of the Hospital.

The Interim Chief of Staff is responsible for:

  • Establishing and monitoring the credentialing and disciplining processes for the Professional Staff
  • Ensuring compliance with the Public Hospitals Act (Ontario), regulations and By-Laws of the Hospital with respect to Professional Staff
  • Supervising and ensuring quality of all the Professional Staff diagnosis, care and treatment given to patients and the general conduct of the Professional Staff within the Hospital according to the policies established by the Board
  • Assisting in ensuring appropriate cost-effective use of the Hospital's resources
  • Advising the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC), the Hospital Board and the Chief Executive Officer with respect to the quality of medical diagnosis, care and treatment provided to the patients of the Hospital

Administrative Duties - When necessary, the Interim Chief of Staff shall:

  • Report to the Board, the Professional Staff, and Chief Executive Officer any matters of which they should have knowledge
  • Recommend to the Chief Executive Officer on the appointment, by the Chief Executive Officer, of a member of the Professional Staff to act for him or her during his or her absence or inability to act
  • Participate in strategic planning within the Hospital to ensure that the needs of the community are appropriately met
  • Act as an advocate for patients and for patient care
  • Promote the development of innovation, a commitment to evidence-based practices and collaboration with other disciplines
