Position Overview:
The Kensington Gardens Long Term Care is seeking experienced and energetic Part-time Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) who have experience in Long Term Care and enjoy working in a team-driven environment. Must be available to work every other weekend and 2 weekday shifts biweekly.
Responsibilities include:
- Assume responsibility for provision of Quality Resident Care on the resident home area (RHA) as per The Kensington Gardens policies and accountability framework.
- Assume responsibility for medication administration, narcotic control, application of treatments and dressings, transcription of Physician orders, reordering of medications, and other skills.
- Provide input to the development and revision of Personal Care policies and procedures and communicates changes to staff.
- Develop objectives for the Resident Home Area compatible with the overall purposes and goals of the Personal Care Service and the institution.
- Promote the philosophy and practices of resident centeredness and humanizing in all resident encounters and decisions.
- Respects spiritual, cultural and ethnic aspects of a residents life.
- Empower the Personal Care staff with the responsibility to plan effective care for each resident with resident input.
- Organize and co-ordinates Personal Care with hospital, home and community to meet individual, family and group needs.
- Assumes the role of Nurse Designate in the absence of nurse managers on site, as assigned, following orientation to the role.
Qualifications:
- RPN with a current certificate of competence from the College Nurses of Ontario.
- Current membership with Gerontological Nursing Association (GNA) and Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) is an asset.
- Minimum of three years experience in long term care, geriatric, rehabilitation setting as charge nurse is preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience being in charge of the building is an asset.
- Demonstrates an understanding of current trends and concepts relative to professional Nursing.
- Exceptional oral and written communications skills.
- Excellent performance accountability with an overall commitment to KHCs Accountability Framework.
- Disciplinary-free record.
- Demonstrated commitment to consistent attendance and punctuality.

- Candidate must be fully vaccinated and willing to take 3rd dose if/when eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination:
- Successful candidates will have to provide Kensington Health with a proof of COVID-19 vaccination (religious and medical exemptions may apply).
- Active screening for all staff, residents, and visitors.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE):
- Masks must be worn at all times except when eating (new masks are provided when mask becomes soiled).
- Eye protection (goggles or face shield) required whenever within 6 feet of a resident or there is potential that they will be within 6 feet of the resident.
- Gowns provided when entering the room of an isolated resident (most likely not applicable for this position).
- N95 required when in contact with positive residents.
- Social distancing, floor marks and room signage.
- Increased hand hygiene.
- Enhanced cleaning of high touch areas.
- Cohorting staff.
- Audits- universal masking, donning, and doffing, 4 moments of hand hygiene.
- Infection control training.
- Staff who are ill, who come in contact with an ill person, or travelled, are not permitted to report for work and must isolate until cleared by Occupational Health or Toronto Public Health.
- Waste is taken outdoors for pick-up to reduce the need for drivers to come in.
- Deliveries are left outside by companies to reduce the need for drivers to come in. Kensington staff to move products into the building.
- Any positive staff or resident cases are reported to Toronto Public Health who directs on interventions that we must be implemented.
