Job Description

MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT

Deer Valley Medical Clinic is a busy, multi-physician family practice and walk-in clinic. Our clinic is a part of the South Calgary Primary Care Network.


We are looking to add an experienced Medical Office Assistant to our team. This position is covering a maternity leave, with an anticipated end date in May 2025. Depending on circumstances at that time, there may be the possibility of continued employment. This position also provides back-up scribing for one of our physicians – shifts vary according to the physician’s schedule.


Our Medical Office Assistants are the first point of contact for our clinic and are a dedicated team responsible for managing and maintaining positive relationships with patients while actively supporting our physicians and other professionals at our clinic. We are looking for someone who can seamlessly fit into our clinic environment, has expertise with MedAccess, is computer savvy, has excellent inter-personal skills and is flexible in terms of start date, training schedule and working days/hours. We will support you with focused, hands-on training shifts to ensure a level of confidence and success with our clinic operations, practices and systems.


Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in patients with a positive, welcoming demeanor and patient-centered care focus
  • Manage incoming phone calls through a multi-line phone system
  • Schedule appointments using MedAccess, a Telus Heath electronic medical record system
  • Obtain and confirm patient demographics for clinic records and healthcare billing
  • Participate in the Alberta Health and WCB billing process
  • Process and generate invoices, collect payment for 3rd party billing
  • Promote and maintain good patient relations
  • Understand the importance of, and ensure patient confidentiality at all times
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with both patients and staff
  • Work well with other staff members and manage conflicts effectively and efficiently
  • Maintain an organized work environment in a fast-paced setting
  • Provide support to physicians, when requested, to ensure seamless care for patients


Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of recognized Medical Office Assistant Program
  • Medical terminology course or equivalent experienced-based knowledge
  • Minimum two years in a medical office or clinic environment
  • Experience with the AB Health and WCB billing system and associated billing codes
  • Experience with Telus Health MedAccess; other EMR experience will be considered
  • Experience with Netcare
  • Efficient computer skills; high comfort level with technology
  • Excellent communication skills with fluency in English (both written and spoken)
  • Extremely detailed-oriented
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
  • Inherent ability to multi-task and prioritize clinic work demands
  • Participate in open communication with other team members to ensure tasks are completed efficiently
  • Confidence to work independently as well as with a team
  • Must be able to work well under pressure, often performing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge or active experience with performing scribe duties


Available shifts for this position are: Monday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm; Wednesday 10:00 am to 5:30 pm; Thursday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (may vary with notice). The rate for this position is $20.00 per hour, however, consideration will be given to specific, relevant experience. This position is available for an immediate start date.
