Position Summary: The registered practical nurse is accountable and responsible for administering medication/treatments to the Sisters in the Care Centre according to the College of Nurses standards of Practice and the Medical Pharmacy Policy & Procedure Manual. Contributes to the various aspects of the Sisters care. Assists the Nurse in charge with daily assignments and treatment. Ensures that all health and safety standards are met and continually reinforced. All equipment is maintained in good, safe working order. Works in a safe manner and promotes the safety of all co-workers, Sisters and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medication/treatments to the Sisters in Care Centre ensuring the highest standard of care and quality of life is provided
- Maintain accurate documentation for health care and administrative record
- Report any changes in Sisters condition to the RN on duty or the Administrator
- Contributes to the health & safety practices in the Care Centre
- Treats the Sisters and staff with dignity and respect
- Maintains confidentiality
- Cares for the Sisters needs i.e. making beds, bathing, feeding, and assists with the plan of care
- Gives the best possible care in order that the Sisters are positioned to avoid bed sores, pressure sores, etc. and as comfortable as possible at all times
- Be knowledgeable of safety and fire safety procedures
- Uses the appropriate equipment and/or personnel to assist when necessary
- Record p/t information
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Formal Education: RPN and a current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Pharmacology certificate. Must be willing to upgrade nursing skills as required.
- Training & Experience: 2 years related nursing experience preferred, preferably with 1-2 years in gerontology in a health care setting.
- Skills required: Use of Mechanical Lifts and BP/P machine. Strong interpersonal and team skills. Good verbal and nonverbal communication skills. Strong leadership skills are required.
- Physical Requirements: Must be capable of standing, bending, walking, lifting and using the equipment necessary for the position requirements.
- Working Conditions: Incumbent must be available to work all shifts and weekends. On occasion accompanies Sisters to outside appointments or social outings. Must be flexible and able to adjust to daily changes.
- Immunization Requirements: Completed COVID Vaccination
