Resuming Cancer Screening - Alberta Update
Updated: Jun 1, 2020
As we progress through phase 1 of the Alberta re-opening more medical services are coming available. We are happy to announce the return of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening services after the COVID-19 response to pause these services. These procedures will use a cautious, phased approached which adhere to all public health and safety guidelines. Here is what you need know about the recent updates in cancer screening services in Alberta.
Breast Cancer Screening
Diagnostic mammograms: Some clinics have opened as of May 19th. A list of available clinics can be found here.
Screen Test will resume its services in early June 2020
Cervical Cancer Screening
Pap Tests: Patients have been asked to contact their healthcare provider to determine when regular Pap tests should resume.
Colorectal Cancer Screening
Endoscopy services are resuming province-wide.
Colonoscopies will be prioritized based upon wait times for their procedure.

Please ask your family doctor whether the FIT kit or an endoscopy is right for you.
FIT tests are to be determined and will resume at a later date. This is to allow lab services to focus on COVID-19 testing. Updates will be provided on the screening for life website. Encourage patients to contact their healthcare provider in emergency scenarios. There may be a possibility to receive testing before routine screening services resume.
AHS Screening Programs will continue to only send abnormal results letters to Albertans in response to the COVID-19. AHS will be postponing all other letters such as invitations, normal results and reminder letters until further notice.
