Relaunching Laboratory Services Across Alberta
June 22, 2020:
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a reduction in lab services. With the reopening of the province, Alberta Health Services has begun to resume surgical, ambulatory, emergency department and other health services that were impacted or paused during the pandemic. Family physician clinics are now able to resume ordering lab work that may have been postponed in recent months.
APL’s (Alberta Precision Laboratories) Patient Service Centres and collection locations are currently able to operate at approximately 70% of pre-pandemic capacity
APL asks physicians to use their best clinical judgement to determine the urgency and necessity of testing.
Community and site specific memos on lab operations will follow to outline hours of operation, details on appointment bookings, and availability of any special collection options.
These memos will be accompanied with Patient Instruction Sheets. APL encourage physicians to provide the Patients Instruction Sheets to patients along with their lab requests.
